Live like the locals

locals.jpgRemember you want to experience another culture. Renting a house saves all sorts of money on accommodations and food, and gives you the opportunity to live like a local.

Don't hesitate to ask the locals where the best place for a beer is. They know best and it will be less expensive than your choice.

Shop in the country: Leave town to shop. If you are in a tourist location you can bet that the cost of everything has been increased just for you.

This is not the case in smaller towns and you will be more likely to find yourself in a conversation with a local over what cheese they would recommend for that perfect picnic lunch.

Inexpensive Travelling Tips

lunch.jpgMake your arrangements yourself: Admittedly a complicated trip might require a travel agent; however, if you have only a few flight arrangements to make, get out your computer and make your own arrangements.

Make lunch your main meal: While the dollar is doing better against the Euro it’s still costly to eat dinner in just about any restaurant in Europe. On the other hand, lunch is less expensive.

Rent your car before you leave home: You can reserve a rental car as far in advance as you wish and you don't spend a dime until you pick it up.

Try 1Car1 in the UK and Eurocar in the rest of Europe for great prices. The best thing is you get to drive a Vauxhall or a Skoda, or something we don't have here in America.

How do you set a travel budget?

check.jpgThese steps might help achieve your goal:

1. Draw a table with two columns.

2. Column A is for Expense Items. Column B is for Estimated Costs.

3. List all the things you can think of that you will need to pay for while traveling in column A. These items should include: air flights, car hire/fuel allowance, travel passes, sight-seeing tours, accommodation, food, insurance, immunizations, and souvenirs.

4. In column B estimate how much you think each of these things will cost while on your trip. Using the internet you can research your travel costs quite easily. Estimating a food allowance might be a bit more difficult. If you are traveling alone, as a couple or in a family you will need to budget food costs accordingly.

5. Finally add up the costs in column B. This will give you an estimate of how much your trip will cost. Can you afford it? If the answer is “yes” - then this is a realistic budget for you. If not, then you may have to rethink your destination and the type of travel experience you want.

Please remember that this table is only an estimate of your anticipated travel costs. You will also want to budget for incidentals and put aside some money in case things do not go according to your plan.

For example, have you got enough money in your budget to buy new clothes if your luggage goes missing? A realistic travel budget will have extra built in to it to cover emergencies.

Setting an emergency budget of sixty-five dollars a day, if traveling alone, is a sensible amount. If you are traveling as a family or in a group, this number will be vastly different.

Begin making your travel plans with your budget in mind. Don't exceed your budget, always keep a little in reserve so you can buy those amazing Italian shoes or go jet-skiing in Hawaii if the desire takes you!

What is a Realistic Traveling Budget?

budget.jpgHonestly, one you can afford. Take a look at how much you earn a month. How much are you able to set aside for a vacation? What items are you ready to give up in order for your vacation to become a reality? Perhaps you've been saving for a while and already have a few thousand dollars in the bank.

You do? Perfect. Well that's your realistic budget. If you desire to travel to Italy tomorrow yet only have a hundred dollars in the bank then you are not being sensible. However, it might be enough to get you in to the local amusement park for a few hours escape.

Above all else, be practical when setting your budget. Each traveler has their own needs for their own unique experience and if your plans include flights overseas, you will need to consequently budget for that.

Undoubtedly you will find great deals and get there cheaper than you expected; however, make certain that you have enough money to not only get you there but to travel around once you arrive, find a place to sleep, and, very importantly — enough money to be able to eat!

Money Saving Ideas - Things to ask for!

discount.jpgIf you are using a travel agent you must to ask if they have any special package deals that are being offered. A package may include your hotel, your car rental, and your airfare.

Your travel agent will be able to do a lot for you, but you definitely should ask for any possible discounts.

If you are planning on an extended stay you may want to see if there are some "free days", because you may be able to get a few days knocked off the bill if you take a longer stay. You will also find that there is a bit of room for haggling.

Speak with a manager so that you don't get misquoted or they accept a deal and then try to take it back.

There are a variety of other tips that you can look for when it comes to planning your vacation, but check if there are any deals or discounts that you may qualify when it comes to the hotel and you can find cheap airfare online.

Finding Travel Discounts

kids_1.jpgPlanning your vacation can include a lot of headaches and, depending on your destination, some trips can be very costly.

To start with you want to take advantage of the fact that few people travel during the off seasons and more discounts are available. You may find that hotel rates and airfares are much lower during certain times in the spring, fall, and also during some parts of the wintertime, depending on your destination.

Research and find out what discounts hotels and online travel sites are willing to give to you.

Find out if the hotel that you wish to stay at will take discounts off your rate for  student ids, insurance agreements, credit card agreements, military discounts, senior discounts, and even a discount for those who are on their honeymoon.

You should find that there are many discounts that apply; however to find them you will need to do some research and figure out what your budget is for the hotel.

If travelling with children you might want to look into whether they can stay at the hotel for free. You definitely want to at least inquire, because there are a lot of hotels that will provide you with a discount if you certain meet certain requirements.

Cheap Travel - More Money Saving Tips

baggage_1.jpgMake sure you stay within the weight limit of airlines luggage. By doing this you won’t need to worry about overweight luggage charges. As long as you have all that you need you can simply ignore these services that will charge you extra.

Before you travel understand the price and services of each room. If there are price differences try to ask what the difference is behind the price gaps. Do they offer free breakfasts? Do they offer free laundry? What are the surroundings and views outside the window of your hotel room?

The most money-saving method to find inexpensive airline tickets is to create a connection with your travel agency. Most travel agencies will help you find the largest discount once you sign a contact with them. Once you do this you won’t be at the mercy of the ticket agent.

Reduce Transportation Fees

redeyeflight_1.jpgOn the average 40% of your total travel budget is taken up by transportation fees, including the airline tickets and local transportation, depending on how and when you are going to visit that destination. How can you reduce this 40% to a lower figure?

* Try to arrange a red-eye flight if travel time is not important to you. Typically, from the major airlines, you can get 50% off for a flight at night. However, you generally will need to order hotel room or arrange vehicles to pick you up.

* Avoid traveling during major holidays and school vacations. These are considered prime traveling seasons and nearly everyone is planning his or her travel. During these times tickets and hotel rooms are offered with few discounts. So, if you are able, try to travel outside of the main holidays or weekends instead.
